RILEY K WEBSTER
Riley is a director, performer, sometimes-writer, and supernatural presence based in southern Maine, western Maine, and Manhattan. All at once! She has a particular affinity for Greek classics, Shakespeare, Noh, especially Weimar-era silent film, and is forever working to deepen her understanding of her Suzuki and Laban training. She is, unfortunately, very very bored of realism in the American theatre and lives for the gothic, the grotesque, the exaggerated, and the camp!
She is also REALLY TIRED of writing about herself in third person now!!!
I hold my BFA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Musical Theatre from Long Island University Post, where I was Hogwarts-style sorted into the Physical Theatre Text Analysis track under Tina Mitchell, Leon Ingulsrud, and Akiko Aizawa (whom I assistant taught for!).
Outside of my theatrical pursuits I am usually covered in dirt and twigs and stuff. I enjoy long treacherous walks through the brambles to my local bog, communing with the plants in my vegetable garden, beating the sh*t out of invasive plants, and chasing squirrels off of my bird feeder with a big stick. I truly believe that no one in this life can out-eat me when fried clams are on the table, and if they do, I guess I will have to reluctantly offer my hand in marriage or something because that is absurd.
and what’s riley up to now?
My full-length adaptation of J. Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla, titled Hystyria, is headed to Dallas with Ghostlight Theatre Company following its NYC debut this January! Performances are October 9th and 10th at the Lewisville Grand.
Before that, however, I’ll be joining Camden Shakespeare Festival as Ariel in The Tempest this July and August. You will rarely, if ever, catch me playing a human being onstage <3
